Romantic Townscape, 1989

The artist’s message in the etching “The romantic townscape” is to reveal the state of mind while observing the city from a distance when the unusual foreshortening of the familiar buildings creates some specific impression. The key such a mood appears in, coincides with the deep external harmony of the up-building of the city’s small fragment & shows the reason-ability of each building gradually heightening one over another. The elevated mood consonant to the former prosperity of the city remains of its romantic aura, transformed in the composition into some artistic image both exquisite & integral.

“Rezidenz”, 1998 Performed in the romantic manner of the 19th century’s landscape, the composition “Rezidenz” carries the idea of the ironic contradiction of the comtemplatory & philosophic contents of the etching. The gloomy air of this townscape is overwhelmed with the absence of any signs of man of reason being present, though some small fragment of the mysterious building hints that the magnificent architectural ensemble does exist. Behind the smart cartouche, where the name of the painting is hidden, there is a time-worn wall being entirely out of place here, surrounded by rubbish, in the scenary of almost total desolation. The highly artistic work of a human genius step by step transforms into the backyard because of the philistines indifference & irresponsibility. Fantastically beautiful & mysterious sky above the landscape, naked tops of the trees, freedom & spontaneity of execution of the atmosphere recall in mind the thought that the world had been created by God’s will for Homo Sapiens able to appreciate the immoral beauty of our world & take attentive care of it.
